Turned out, I didn't need to install either Pantech suite or driver, all I needed is to add the hardware ID to the Android's INF file, android_winusb.inf, found under: C:\android\android-sdk\extras\google\usb_driver:
......
[Google.NTx86] ;Burst %SingleAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_10A9&PID_6050&MI_01 %CompositeAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_10A9&PID_6050&REV_0231&MI_01 ......
[Google.NTamd64] ;Burst %SingleAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_10A9&PID_6050&MI_01 %CompositeAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_10A9&PID_6050&REV_0231&MI_01
......
Then manually point Device Manager to this location and the phone will appear as an Android ADB device in Windows 8.

All that went right over my head. However it I understood any of it, it'd that you found a way to root a pantech burst gingerbread while using a windows 8 computer? If so PLEASE send me detailed instructions. I have been fighting with this on and off for MONTHS! Nothing works. The one touch apps and framaware things don't work. And I reaaaaalllly need to root this phone. But my PC just doesn't recognize the phone. Tried installing and uninstallibg drivers. That had an effect but not what I wanted
ReplyDeleteWhen I first tried connecting to my windows 8 laptop, the phone only read 'USB debugging enabled' and after uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers it now reads both prompts. USB debugging enabled and USB connection. However I still can't get anything to recognize it. I use ASC screen recording system and it keeps telling me No device detected. I use pantech Suite and it keels giving me the same thing. Oddly I can connect to pantech PC suite via wifi. Honestly, I just want this piece of crap rooted so that I can use my screen recorder.
