Sony MDR-10RDC noise cancelling headphones

are selling for $179.99 in Costco stores. Building quality is superb and it is light weight and totally comfortable to wear. Cord is replaceable and it uses one AAA battery.

However, the sound is bassy, muddy and squeezed, although not harsh. I looked at the back of the package and I saw "beats", that's why.

Noise cancelling is not so effective, I still can hear the emulated engine noise. Pass.

  1. What do you mean about "...beats, that's why"? Looking for a pair of good (but not too expensive) headphones for my musical, audiophile son (25 y.o.), but if "beats" is a bad thing, then I will pass, too. Thanks! PS-- if you have any other recommendations, I'm all ears. Ha!

    1. Beats by Dr Dre, marketed by Monster. No audiophile like them.

Take a look at the Sennheiser PXC 450. Although Sennheiser makes the best open-back headphones, its closed-back ones are not so good. So be careful, they are very expensive.

For now I use Coby (see my related blog). The only thing I would like to try the next is the PXC 450 when I see a good deal,
